Oregon: CDC Investigating Woman’s Death After J&J Vaccine

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Oregon health officials said Thursday that federal officials are investigating the death of a woman in her 50s who developed a rare blood clot and low platelets within two weeks of receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine against COVID-19.

The Oregon Health Authority learned of the probe on Tuesday, two days after the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention began the investigation, the agency said. The woman, whose name was not released, received the dose before the CDC ordered a pause on the vaccine amid concerns it could cause dangerous clots.

The woman developed a “rare but serious blood clot in combination with very low platelets,” OHA said in a statement.

Judge Dismisses Recall Petition Against Seattle School Board

“The Court is understanding and sympathetic of the parents’ concerns with children in the Seattle Public School District being subjected to remote learning … However, the Court is limited in its role as a gatekeeper,” Rajul wrote in her order.

Rajul noted the decision to close schools is a “discretionary act and members of a school board cannot be recalled unless they arbitrarily or unreasonably exercised such discretion.” The School Board, she decided, did not make decisions surrounding school closures in an arbitrary or unreasonable manner.

“Our ability to affect change as parents is limited,” Cherkin, a Seattle mom and one of the plaintiffs, said last week. “We don’t have control over the teachers union. We don’t have control over the superintendent. But we have control over the people we vote for.”

She added, “This felt like one of the few forms of recourse we had.”

The plaintiffs also accused the board of failed oversight resulting in reduced outdoor play space; lack of protection of student data and privacy during remote learning; mishandling several issues at Northgate Elementary School and Rainier Beach High School; and failing to consult the Duwamish Tribe before voting on two projects, among other charges.

School Board Members Ask City of Seattle Not to Clear Homeless Camps on School Property

SEATTLE — Parents are feeling increasingly frustrated over two homeless encampments near Seattle schools.

Some campers are actually on school property. With some students back in class this week, parents are worried about their kids’ safety.

“I just think it’s a recipe for disaster,” said Serena Evans, a parent. She’s the guardian for her nephew, who attends Broadview-Thomson Elementary in Seattle’s Bitter Lake neighborhood

Evans said she’s seen drug deals and fights. Parents say the school has now hired a security guard and locked a gate behind the playground. However, the gate also blocks one of the two walking paths to the school.

FDA Official Says One Death Reported Due To Blood Clot Event After J&J Vaccine

US recommends ‘pause’ for J&J shots in blow to vaccine drive

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. on Tuesday recommended a “pause” in using the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine to investigate reports of rare but potentially dangerous blood clots, setting off a chain reaction worldwide and dealing a setback to the global vaccination campaign.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration announced that they were investigating unusual clots in six women between the ages of 18 and 48. One person died.

Government Database Shows 7,844 Injuries and 181 Deaths Following COVID Vaccine as of Jan. 15 says Children's Health Defense This could be the tip of the iceberg as studies of this database show...

Last week, California health officials temporarily paused a large batch of Moderna vaccines due to a high number of allergic reactions, but reversed that decision a few days later. Anyone suffering from a serious injury will have little legal recourse because they will be directed to the Countermeasures Injury Compensation Program which has rejected 90% of vaccine-injury claims over the past decade.
